I found the above article in October. It claims that the dairy virus can survive the most common method of pasteurization in an infective form and survive in milk for 4 days. This is the CDC's own research, but they have suppressed it from the public. It has been published in their November EID Journal, but they have not publically offered it to the general population in any news briefing on the subject. The FDA did respond and decided to do another round of testing, but their protocol is deficient. They want volunteers when what they need to do is test the milk coming into the plant, and test it after it goes through pasteurization. They need to test multiple truck loads and multiple pasteurization methods (the 30 minute treatment was effective, but the 15 to 20 seconds at 72 degrees C was not totally effective). If they only test plants using the 30 minute pasteurization method they will fail at testing the milk supply.

It won't do them any good to go somewhere that has no infected herds. They need to test the milk coming out of the trucks and after pasteurization. They need to check the equipment and the process. How often is the system recalibrated. How far out of specs does the system get? Is the process as effective 7 hours after the shift starts as it is at the start of the shift? All you need is a few bottles of milk a shift with enough infective virus to cause an infection, and you have an issue.

The initial articles that I saw on the Missouri case claimed that the patient had ingested dairy products, and that would be the primary source of infection if anyone was aware of the CDC research on pasteurization. They should have been testing the milk processing plant and the dairies contributing to that plant. The California child needs to have the virus sequenced and determined if it is the dairy H5N1. If it is, dairy products would again be the primary source for infection. Pasteurization may be effective 99.9% of the time, but some employee lapse or equipment failure and infective virus is probably always a possibility. Just that fact coupled with the CDC's research indicating that some virus can survive the most common pasteurization method and the inaction of the CDC and FDA is just stupid.

Egg prices are going up due to the dairy virus being allowed to keep spreading around the US. Recent million bird flock losses recently in California and Utah are not considered in these numbers because they occurred in Nov. and they are using data up to October. Production is down 1% in 2024, nearly 3% in October.

The problem is that when a million to 3 million bird farm gets depopulated due to being infected by the dairy virus, you lose multiple populations of different ages on each farm. This means getting the farm up to full capacity again will take over a year. It would be stupid for the farms to place 3 million birds all at once. What they do is place a fraction of capacity and grow these up and then place another fraction, and then another etc. This insures that they have multiple flocks in good production at all times. So the farm stays at full production for the whole year once the farm space is filled up. There is no down time waiting for all the birds to mature and come into lay. Only a fraction of the birds are too young to lay eggs at anyone time. The dairy virus wipes out the whole system, so that it has to start over, and the farm will not be at full capacity until the maximum number of flocks are in production.

Raw milk has tested positive in California and it may be too late for many. They should be asking customers about any stomach flu symptoms. The infected dairy had likely been selling infected milk since Nov 9th, but just issued their recall. They were under voluntary testing and may have just gotten the results for the Nov 9 tests. They claim subsequent tests have been negative so the positive cows must have been removed from milking. All sick cattle are not supposed to contribute to the milk supply.
The Times article notes that H5N1 is showing up in the waste water of 24 of 28 California water systems tested. Covid shows up in just about all of them. They need to start thinking about the possibility of more infected that just are not reporting the usual symptoms. Itchy eyes and possibly diarrhea or nausea as reported by the Missouri patient may not be reported as influenza.
