This can likely go here.  It is about one of Trump's exploitation of the Covid pandemic.  While denying the severity of the infection and interferring with the distribution of what was needed to deal with the pandemic he was sending the "unnecessary" testing equipment to Russia to help out his friend Putin for Putin's personal use.  History will likely note that this was a time when Trump was withholding funding to states that would allow them to purchase the equipment needed, and when the funding didn't come and the states asked for more funding, Trump had to claim that they had the funding, but he just had not distributed it because it wasn't needed.  Trump's stupid claims about treatments led to what this article is describing about the prescibing of the useless ivermectin and anti-malarial drug Hydroxychloroquine.  This article is only estimating the drugs prescribed to patients.  A lot more people self medicated and some of them were overdosing on the medication at concentrations designed to treat horses and cattle.
I put up an article that estimated that 40% of the first million Covid mortality could be attributed to Trump's mishandling of of the pandemic, due to his denial, obstruction, and suspect information given to the public.  Even though Trump was the one to sign onto the project to produce a vaccine, his influence resulted in the rejection of the vaccine and it resulted in the unvaccinated dying of covid at over 10 times the rate as the vaccinated that became infected.  It should also be noted that the unvaccinated were the largest producers of virus that infected those that were vaccinated or unvaccinated at this time.  Until nearly everyone had been infected that was not vaccinated the mortality rate remained significantly higher than vaccinated, and even today unvaccinated die at a higher rate than vaccinated, but it looks like it is less than double the rate.  As Trump has noted with his recent anti-vaccination stupidity there are still a lot of Trump supporters that are anti-vaccination for covid.  That is because nearly all of the unvaccinated survived infection.  Mortality was likely never higher than 3% of infected, and by the time the vaccine came in the virus had less severe symptoms.  Those that didn't survive can't change their minds, and Trump obviously can't change his.
