https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/second-measles-death-texas-child-kennedy-rcna199882A second child has died, likely from measles infection. They aren't saying if the child had been vaccinated. The issue is, that if more people had been vaccinated when they should have been vaccinated, fewer children too young to have been fully vaccinated would be getting infected. 1 to 3 per thousand infected children usually die of the infection. Two doses of the vaccine is supposed to be 97% effective against infection. Over 600 confirmed cases are claimed to be an underestimate because a lot of the infected are refusing to be tested. Apparently a significant fraction of the population of the region of Texas were vaccine resistors. The three probable deaths (two children and one adult) in this epidemic are the first deaths in the US from measles in over a decade.
Kennedy is going to attend the funeral for the child, but that isn't any absolution for his anti-vaccination stupidity that likely contributed to the kids death.
One can only hope that the guy that is now responsible for Health and welfare of the nation can be reasoned with and change the stupid anti-science stupidity of his past. He is currently recommending vaccination against measles for this outbreak, but is claimed to have been anti-measles vaccination for nearly 2 decades. Why is he going to attend the funeral? Is he going to claim that the kid was a hero for taking one for the Team?
