The misuse of a prescription drug widely used to treat anxiety,
nerve pain and epilepsy has been linked with a sharp increase
in deaths and prompted a government review into how it is
controlled.
Illicitly obtained pregabalin pills - typically costing
just £1 each - have overtaken Spice as the "drug of choice"
within Manchester's homeless population, the BBC has
been told.
“They’re taking it with heroin but it’s too powerful -
I know loads of people who’ve died".
. . .
Mixing drugs is always a bad bet.
Alas, knowing politicians, there will be a knee-jerk
attempt to ultra-restrict/ban the '-pentins' even
though there are huge number of people with very
legit, very severe, nerve pain and really nothing
else works. People have been known to kill themselves
over such pain.
I can but agree that mixing drugs is very dangerous.
Whether the drug is mixed as Fentanyl is used to provide
a kick to the ? whatever by suppliers or by the misinformed
and poorly educated user on the street.
Alcohol and all the opiates are respiratory depressants
that is they interfere with the reflexes that keep us breathing.
Fentanyl is very good at depressing respiration and it does
not take much of anything else to kill the user.
Alcohol alone can depress respiration and provoke
vomiting which if the person is not conscious can lead to
death.
Cannabis does not depress respiration nor do most of
the so-called psychedelics.
Keep on breathing.
