Well, barely 100 years ago, a lot of that

SOME still pop out some puppies in their teens,
but the PRICE is usually high. MANY now wait
until after 30 ... but only make maybe ONE puppy.
On the whole the results are NOT enough to
sustain 'western', or any, civs.

As for "marriage" per-se ... what they'd sold
as a "forever" thing ... well, 'forever' was
about 15 years max not ALL so long ago.

Today, that kind of commitment ... just is NOT
gonna work. VERY few can STAND to be together
for 20,30,50 years. All the fun goes out of
it MUCH sooner. Far less NEED either.

SO ... the old fairy tale shit should be RETIRED.
State recognition of 'marriage' should END.
"Forever and Ever" ... VERY unlikely. The results
profit DIVORCE LAWYERS only.

Oh, a few countries have discussed a "baby bonus",
but it's always WAY WAY below the actual expenses
and trouble of having actual babies. Needs to be
about $1500 per MONTH minimum for 18 YEARS.

Don't see that happening.

Which means the current 1st-world is DOOMED ...
just gonna FADE AWAY ... and sooner than you'd
like to expect.
People lived past 30 routinely for centuries.  I do not know of
references in the past, literary references where it was just assumed
you'd be dead by 30.  I've heard this before, but never read anything
written in the past which validated this.
The average age was low due to high infant mortality, but if you
survived childhood you had a good shot of making it to at least early
old age.
Not too long ago I found one of the earlier govt
reports (UK) on expected lifetimes (Liverpool maybe)
in about 1870. For "unskilled workers" - ie 'most' -
it was 19 years and improved somewhat depending
on how white your collar was.
City/industrial living was very bad for people - yet
every farm boy and girl flocked to the big cities
because that's where the money was.
   Archeologists/paleontologists digging up ancient
camp-site areas found that the old hunter-gatherers
really DID have fairly decent and good lifespans
despite the lack of proper med. Perhaps we're still
genetically 'tuned' for that kind of living and
   deviations are rather damaging.
One thing they couldn't fix worth a damn back
   then however - bad teeth.
