Yes, it's a hot summer this year.I'm using devices called "ceiling fans" . They also incorporate lighting fixtures , and being reversible do double duty by distributing warm air from our wood burning stove throughout our house in the winter . It also helps that we live in a clearing out in the woods . The trees not only provide shade , they also supply evaporative cooling . My outdoor thermometer usually reads 5-8 degrees cooler than the temps in town .
This was pushing up my electric bills.
Easy cheap fix - bought an ordinary 'desk fan'
and put it on a table about 10 feet away. On
the low setting it's quiet and moves a lot
of air and uses almost no electricity.
Result - was able to push up the AC thermostat
three or four degrees. Doesn't sound like much
but in reality it saves a LOT of electricity.
HVAC really sucks up the kilowatts.
Amazon has cheepo fans - $40 or less - but some
of them aren't very good or have defects or are
simply Too Loud. For just a few dollars more you
can buy high-rated metal GOOD fans that'll deliver
for a dozen years. 12" or a tad more are what
you want. Make sure they have multiple speeds.
Think of them as "A/C Boosters".
Yea, yea ... 'fans' sound like, and are, 1930s
tech - we can do SO much better now ! Yep, 'better',
but for a LOT more precious money.
