"jumps the shark" is a reference to a "Happy Days" episode in which "The Fonz" on his motorbike jumps a pool containing a shark.
Back in the 50's/60's as 'represented' in the show) weird things were being done on motorbikes .... like "Evil" Knievel jumping Canyons, chains of Cara/Buses, etc.
Why is such a "big" thing made about 'jumps the shark'??
