In "Eyes of the Overworld" Cugel is twice transported to the other side of the world, once as punishment, once as a result of his over-estimation of his magical abilities, the latter providing fodder for Gygax.
I've not read them, but isn't Dumarest (?) the protagonist of E.C. Tubb's long series, trying to find his way back to earth?
