Mrs Flood's brief appearance at the start and her 'fourth wall'
breaking comment is clearly foreshadowing something big later on
too.. as her comment was meaningless in regards to this episode.
I'm still in the 'she is the Rani' camp. (Rani is an anagram of
rain - too much rain and you get a flood... Seems simple enough,
right? But as we know RTD likes his misdirections and
double-bluffs!)
That kind of name-based wordplay is more Moffat’s style than RTD’s.
(e.g. Susan Triad’s name was a red herring, Harold Saxon wasn’t the
Meddling Monk, and there wasn’t a villain called Will Knockfourtimes.)
Besides, Mrs Flood just doesn’t seem like a single-minded, amoral
scientist. What’s the point of bringing an unrecognisable Rani back in
name only? RTD’s already done that with Sutekh!
And didn't RTD also do that .. with The Doctor, i.e. DoctorChristopher??
