Originally there were one-line fortunes distributed with v7, but the Berkeley
distribution provided a more sophisticated database that could display
multiline fortunes and an associated set of fortunes.

Over the years the fortunes databases have expanded and different OS releases
have chosen different additions.  But "The man who turns green has
eschewed protein" was in the original v7 file and I still see it printed out
today on just about every fortunes program out there.
