(I did not oppose what he did, since most of the outcome were positive.)

He shows enough intelligence that this does not seem true. He has so
little regard for the truth, that it seems he doesn't care if he is
lying, but he seems to know that is what he is doing, so it seems he has
doomed himself in his sin.

Olcott had a powerful criteria of trial-by-exhaustion and a schedule to achieve
his goal. He tries every possibility to make "HP is refuted" true. Basically,
every thing is in his plan. Except the schedule is delayed because other people
are too stupid to preach. CS/STEM idiot is one thing, the other part of his
brain is remarkable. Olcott is not entirely an idiot.

Of course, God will pass the judgement based on his infinite knowledge.

behavior, he starts on the wrong foot.

I have no religion. But, yes, olcott thinks he is God. The god in his mouth is
for people (and his conscience) to listen, not for his ego.
