I still hold out hope for the Dirac-Wheeler idea that the electron, the
positron and the aether are all there is. But of course, to gain general
acceptance, one has to explain convincingly (among other things) why a
collection of 918 e+ and 917 e- (a proton) or 919 e+ and 919 e- (a
neutron) are stable and not other combinations of e+ and e-.
 

918 e+ and 918 e- for a neutron would make more sense. I tried to match
the neutron mass, but, anyway mass is not straightforwardly additive for
collections of subatomic particles as it is for say vegetables.
