There's also an issue with VGA as modern monitors only have HDMI.
VGA to HMDI adapters exist however user reviews suggest they don't
support low resolutions...
This is just a matter of selecting the proper monitor
for your needs; that's why I use LG featuring three inputs:
DisplayPort / DVI / VGA.
Tbh I don't know why they went for the approach of trying to support a
keyboard and screen from that board.
..because without this it wouldn't be any different
to Arduino (or STM32 "pill", or ESP 8266 / 32 etc.). What
would be the sense? Still not enough various "Arduinos"
on the market? We need another, 1001st one?
The aim was to create dirt cheap little computer that
can be used "standalone". VGA output can be done (using
enough computing power) on resistor ladder. HDMI requires
specialized kind of controller (and they require licence
fees, if I'm correct, that's why DisplayPort has been born).
