the first occurrence of the phrase "eternal september" is attributed to
john william chambless <chambless@whale.st.usm.edu> in a usenet article
posted wednesday 9 february 1994 00:23:47 UT to "alt.folklore.computers"
under the namesake subject header "the eternal september", which begins:
"here we go again... isn't it lovely that usenet isn't just the 'toy of
the intellectual elite' anymore?" . . . the author of this famous title
(b. 10 april 1959, gulfport) is apparently still living but considering
the unintended "never ending" meme which became the trademark of usenet,
has probably heard more about this quip than anyone could possibly need
(although commercial usenet providers might owe this guy some royalties)
