What does "0.99999..." mean? One possible interpretation is
Sum( i=0; infinity; 0.9 *( 1/10 )^i ).
And one can show that this sum exists and that the difference
of this sum to 1 is smaller than every finite value, so this
difference must be infinitesimal, i.e., zero.
