Lots of people have heard of the ozone layer,
that is a shield of the Earth from ultraviolet radiation,
less people have heard of the magnetosphere sheath,
which keeps the buffets of the solar wind as going
_around_ instead of _over_, the Earth.
So, any disturbances to the magnetosphere sheath,
would let in more solar wind and result the sorts
of problems associated with solar wind.
Thus, there's much to be said for a "Clean, and Quiet",
air, Clean, chemically, so it doesn't erode the ozone layer,
and Quiet, electromagnetically, so it doesn't disturb
the great boundary that is Earth's magnetic skin.
Also Clean and Quiet Air is associated with
improved neo-natal and post-natal development
in humans, and pollution is associated with bad
things of a quite wide variety.
