It doesn't matter, it is a matter of convention (+ +  + -) or (- + + +)

If ds²=-Tr²c²

If by Tr you intend a proper time \tau it may or *not* be
possible to find a frame of reference where ds = -\tau^2 c^2.
It is impossible for space-like intervals.
