The careless handling of safety measures at one of the largest ports in the region, that of Bandar Abbas, has led to explosion of chemical material and a huge fire that is still going after 36 hours.
This will definitely impact the degree of confidence China will have in the future to have the Silk Road pass through Iran.
A good lesson for the managers involved in the port, but at a great cost to Iranians.
Some say there's been sabotage, but there are a few survivors who eyewitnessed how the fire started and got worse and worse, and ran away in time before the huge explosion.
The whole safety design of the port has flaws. The safety measures were likely that of a much smaller sized port. They allowed the port to get larger and larger without adjusting the safety precautions to the new dangers. Now they're a bunch of sorry asses and nothing else.
It is the best that could happen for enemies of Iran and competitors in the coming Silk Road businesses.
We'll see how Iran handles the consequences, especially what options they have with China that are still left intact. What a shame.
