But that region belonged to Denmark, too, until some hundred years ago.
My own 'hometown' was actually 'Altona', now part of Hamburg.
That was in former times the second larges city of Denmark.
The North-Sea west of Denmark was in former times called 'Mare Germanicum', because said 'Germanes' lived there.
