I have read, that this device could create 'beams', which made people standing in its way age faster.
The 'bell' was used as device to levitate the Nazi 'Haunebus' (kind of 'flying saucers').
Now the setting of the LHC resembles in a way the 'bell', hence could eventually produce the same kind of rays.
